Sitting on the floor in front of the TV on a Saturday morning in the 1970s waiting for the days programming to start there was nothing to look at but the Test Pattern.
The only audio a long tone - a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
that had to be kept at the lowest possible volume so the grown ups could sleep in.
Apparently the test pattern came on after everyone went to bed for the night too, but I was never allowed to stay up that late.
The test pattern was different for every TV station, but it’s purpose really was to tune in your TV and twiddle all the knobs to be sure the colour, contrast and brightness were set to give you the best picture possible.
This quilt gives me all of the nostalgia feels in the colours featured here in the pattern, but it makes a fun wall hanging in any number of solid or pattern fabrics in all sorts of colour ways. Makes a rectangular quilt, and can be cut to a circle. Applique your own message or use the templates for TESTING and STAND BY.
